Volunteering Programme

Volunteering Programme

For over a decade, placing volunteers from Nepal and overseas in our partner schools has been one of our flagship initiatives. We believe that connecting rural schools with people from diverse backgrounds—bringing new ideas, enthusiasm, and lasting friendships—helps children broaden their horizons and reach their full potential.

Through collaborations with institutions such as University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Durham University, Loughborough University, and the International Teachers Association from Denmark, we have hosted over 450 international volunteers in the past 15 years.

To volunteer with us, please email your basic details to info@help.org.np.

CU-HELP Volunteers

The CU-HELP Volunteering Programme began after the successful and inspiring placement of the first five volunteers from University of Cambridge volunteered in Helambu. Following their positive experience, Douglas Hull—one of the earliest volunteers—along with Bethan, James, and Kirsty, established the CU HELP as a student society within the University of Cambridge to help recruit volunteers to support HELP’s partner schools. The programme which proudly runs even today.

Since then, more than 350 volunteers have travelled to Nepal. They have not only dedicated their time to teaching children but have also raised significant funds for schools and HELP’s various programmes. CU HELP volunteers in the past have contributed to funding teachers’ salaries, training local teachers, and providing essential school infrastructure such as fencing, uniforms, desks, and benches. They are now supporting our Saathi Teachers Programme.

One of the most remarkable moments in CU HELP’s history came after the 2015 Nepal earthquake, when former CU HELP volunteers united to raise over £30,000 within just a few weeks. Their swift action enabled HELP to provide emergency relief and build temporary classrooms for affected communities.

We thank all the past CU HELP presidents ( Doug Hull (2010, Founding President), Imogen Buxton (2011), Priska Komaromi (2012), Dan Jollans (2013), Kim Sørensen (2014), Helen Denyer (2015), Laxmi Piette (2017), Natasha Godsiff (2018), Kyle Eastman (2019), Simran Goyle (2022), Jay Aliffe (2023), Charlie Betz (2024) and Anya Khurana (2025) ) for making a wonderful contribution to make a difference in the Nepali children and the growth of HELP. If you wish to become a volunteer through CU-HELP, please contact: cuhelp.nepal@gmail.com
